It is that time of the year where families gather to create new memories taking advantage of the cooler weather in Florida.
What to wear to a family portrait session is a very common question, and I am so excited to start the season with some advice for you.
You have invested precious time to create lasting portraits and figuring out what to wear is part of the fun.
Here are some tips to make your portraits stylish.
Most important tip. Be prepared to have fun!
Lifestyle and portrait photography is meant to portray the real you.
Wear clothes that are comfortable and that you love. Sometimes, wearing things we usually don't for portraits makes us feel like someone else. It does not mean that you should put extra love in what you are wearing; just make sure they feel like you!
Coordinate, don't match. It is better to have a pallet of colors to choose from instead of having everyone wearing the same colors and clothes. If blue jeans and white t-shirts are your favorites, add skirts, shorts, or dresses.
Choose colors that complement each other. You want to add diversity and dimension to the session with colors and patterns. Something to consider is the colors or theme of the location. If you're on the beach, choose a light beige as your base, then add neutral blues, teals, and pink as your complementary colors. If it is in a park, consider magentas, yellows, and light grays.
Consider the seasons. They have their tones and temperatures to play with. Since it is the fall now, earth tones, deep reds, and oranges are trending. Complement with neutral pants, layers, or dark blues.
Moms and grandmas, this is for you! Photo sessions are great opportunities to shine, feel, and look great. Go out and buy your outfit or choose it out of your closet first. Choose something you feel amazing in and build the family outfits around yours. ;)
Stay away from clothes with big graphics, tiny stripes, and fluorescent colors. Also, let's avoid free advertising for brands by avoiding clothing with huge logos.
Clothes look better when they fit right. Baggy or too tight clothes are not as flattering.
Let's not forget about shoes and accessories. Accessories like jewelry, hats, scarfs, blankets, and jackets are also great options to add personality.
Avoid hair cuts at least a week before a photography session.
The best advice is to take this opportunity to have fun with your loved ones and let your style shine.
Also, do not hesitate to ask your photographer for feedback on outfits or ideas.
